I have been seriously involved in photography for over 30 years. My favourite subjects
have always been young children. Even while I was a child myself, I enjoyed watching
their uninhibited antics and expressions.
In my early twenties I took up photography as a hobby. It wasn’t long before I was
developing and printing my own black and white photographs. Soon it became my
favourite creative activity and, naturally, children became the subjects I most loved to
capture.
In the past I have freelanced for the local community newspaper, health department,
and school board, getting many opportunities to do the work I most enjoy. My friends’
children, nephews, nieces, and later, their children have all been well documented with
my camera. My black and white photos of children have hung in art galleries, libraries,
and are in an on-going display at a medical clinic. They have been published by many
religious and educational publications in the US and Canada. I have also given
presentations and written about the art of candid photography.
In all my candid work I try to avoid the set-up look, striving instead to portray children
at their most natural.
